Rising Star 2019 - Sue Longhini

The American Rose Society’s UP & COMING ROSARIANS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE PROMOTION OF THE CULTURE AND APPRECIATION OF THE ROSE

Sue is the embodiment of the young, modern rose-grower. She uses her skills as a Consulting Rosarian and an accomplished exhibitor to educate others in both the areas of growing healthy, beautiful roses and of exhibiting them. Sue’s contribution to the art of growing roses is well known in our District.

Sue works full-time and attends university classes part-time. Since joining the American Rose Society five years ago, Sue has increased the number of roses in her garden from one plant to more than 50. She has given rose-related talks within her community, served on the board of directors of the Denver Rose Society, volunteered at garden centers/expos and pruning demonstrations, and has written an article on propagation for her local Sue at the June 2018 Denver Rose society’s newsletter. Sue has clerked Society show with her “artist palette”

and exhibited at numerous shows. The

first time she exhibited, she won Best Novice. In both 2016 and 2017 she won the DRS Perpetual Sweepstakes Trophy that honors the exhibitor with the most blue ribbons in a show.

In 2017 Sue became a Consulting Rosarian and now serves as the only CR in Boulder, Colorado. With the knowledge gained from studying to become a CR, she has already aided members of her community with climbing roses and propagation. She fulfilled her first horticulture judging apprentice-ship at the National Show in Jacksonville, Florida and went on to become a fully accredited ARS Horticulture Judge during the summer of 2018. Sue regularly encourages her coworkers and neighbors to grow and show roses by inviting them to monthly rose society meetings, and sharing the world of roses through the ARS website, e-newsletters and magazine.
