Greetings local rose society presidents. Welcome to your Forum!

NOTE: This forum requires registration to post. It is visible to the general public but is accessible by registration only.

This site was created in collaboration with the American Rose Society Local Society Relations Committee to offer a place where the presidents of local rose societies may discuss their ideas, difficulties, and successes, and share solutions to common problems. We may live in different climate zones and grow different roses, but we all share common goals for the success of our rose societies, and encounter similar bumps, twists, and turns along the rocky road to that end. We have created categories for each of the most common issues of concern to presidents of local societies. Currently these categories (listed alphabetically) include:

  • Fundraising – suggestions for successful fundraising events, sources and ideas, etc.
  • General Rose Society Issues – our catch-all category for anything that doesn’t fit elsewhere.
  • Meetings & Events – recommendations for meeting topics, how to locate good speakers, other successful meeting activities, garden and nursery tours, etc
  • Membership & Participation – recommendations to increase membership, get members involved, ideas to increase attendance, advice on increasing and encouraging volunteers, etc.
  • Organization: Officers, Board Members, Committees – who does what in your society; what works well or needs re-thinking; recruiting officers, board members, committee chairs, volunteers, etc.
  • Public Outreach & Publicity –how can we get the word out about our societies, meeting activities and events, and overcome public trepidation about growing roses.
  • Rose Shows – suggestions and recommendations regarding increased attendance by members and the public, increased member participation as exhibitors and arrangers, prize ideas, themes, formal versus informal shows, locating experienced judges, show expenses, etc.
  • General Rose Society Issues is the catch-all category if you can’t determine which one applies to your search or issue.
  • These categories may not cover everything. We would like to keep things simple and limit the amount of administration required for this site, however we can add additional categories if there is a need.

Feel free to browse the topics posted under each category. As time passes we hope to accumulate a knowledge base of our shared experience and successes, as well as to foster friendships, positive working relationships, and a sense of community. To participate, first look for the category that relates to your concerns and view the topics for questions and suggested solutions. If there is no topic that covers the matter you wish to discuss or for which you are seeking solutions, you will want to create a new topic. To create a new topic, follow these simple instructions:

  • Select the category in which you wish to make a new topic.
  • Once there, locate the forum options tab panel situated above and below the forum category topics list.
  • Type in your subject line.
  • Type in your message.
  • Click ‘submit’ and your new topic will post the the forum category of choice.
  • Other members can now reply to your topic with their remarks, suggestions, ideas, solutions, additional questions, etc. Be sure to check back often to see how the discussion is going and to see possible solutions to your situation. We hope that you enjoy this resource. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.
