Knock Out Rose

A 2000 AARS Winner, The Knock Out® rose has broken all records for sales of a new rose and is the most widely sold rose in North America. Knock Out roses were developed by William Radler, a Wisconsin botanist who was looking for a hardy, disease-resistant rose bush. Knock Out roses are a shrub rose bush that grows to about 3 feet in height and stays in a relatively tidy mound. Proper care will keep this rose bush blooming late into the fall.

The Knock Out family of roses are easy to grow and do not require special care. They are the most disease resistant rose on the market and have stunning flower power with a generous bloom cycle (about every 5-6 weeks) that will continue until the first hard frost.  This rose variety is also self-cleaning so there is no need to deadhead.

The Knock Out family of roses is winter hardy to USDA Zone 5 and heat tolerant throughout the entire U.S. They thrive in almost every area of the country. In the coldest regions, they will need winter protection (check with your local garden center to see what method is best for your area).  If unpruned, Knock Out roses can easily grow to be more than 3-4' wide x 3-4' tall. Periodic trims will keep them maintained at a smaller size. A once a year cut (to about 12-18" above the ground) in late winter is also recommended for maximum performance.

The cycle of bloom and growth is never ending and provides a show of color from early Spring well into the hard frosts of winter On can't say enough about its maintenance free lifestyle. It is drought tolerant; surviving and even thriving in the most devastating of dry summers. Humidity... bring it on. You'll be hard pressed to find a speck of black spot on this healthy plant. There is hardly anything which will stop this rose from blooming. You can expect to have blooms everyday throughout the summer. We believe that this is one of the best "flowering shrubs" by far to hit the market in quite sometime. Extremely winter hardy to zone 4.

Knock Out roses can fit any landscape and don’t need much pruning. Plant them individually among shrubs, annuals and perennials in mixed beds and borders. You can also plant them in large groups to create a colorful hedge or along a foundation to provide a bright border. To promote healthy growth and encourage lots of flowers, in late winter, simply use hedge trimmers or loppers to shear the shrub down to about 1/3 or 1/2 it's current height. It is okay if what remains is only about 12-18" above the ground.
