New York Garden
The replica of Lady Liberty, the Statue of Liberty, donated to the gardens by local rosarians, Pete and Charlotte Haring, stood at the center of the New York State Garden of Gene Boerner until May 2013 when an EF1 tornado came through the gardens. It destroyed the statue along with more than 35 trees, many garden structures and hundreds of roses.
The roses in this garden have been donated by Star Roses and were replanted in Spring 2014. The roses include the gorgeous ‘Francis Meilland’ hybrid tea roses, in 2013 it was named the final All-America Rose Selections winner. Also, note the medium pink ‘Orchid Romance’ floribunda rose as well as the mauve ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ grandiflora rose. Finally, the bright yellow roses of this garden are ‘Walking on Sunshine’ floribunda roses with very good disease-resistance.
